Derawar Fort, located in the Cholistan Desert 

near Bahawalpur, is a massive square fortress 

originally built in the 9th century by Rai Jajja 

Bhatti and later rebuilt in 1733 by Nawab Sadiq 

Muhammad Khan of the Abbasi dynasty. The f

ort features 40 towering bastions, walls rising t

o about 30 meters, and a total perimeter of 

approximately 1,500 meters. Historically, it 

served as a strategic stronghold along 

important desert trade routes and remains 

a powerful symbol of regional authority and 

architectural strength in Pakistan.
